Thanks so much for the update – it really does feel hard to believe we’re already in June! I appreciate you keeping us in the loop, especially with such important developments.
Hearing that the Child Poverty Strategy has been postponed is definitely frustrating. So many of us have put time, energy, and lived experience into shaping this work, and it’s disheartening to feel like it’s being delayed once again. At the same time, I recognise that change in government policy can be slow, and the progress we have made – especially with the extension of free school meals – is something to hold on to.
The announcement about universal free school meals from 2026 is a real step forward, and I’m hopeful it will make a genuine difference for many families. But I also can’t help but think about those who are struggling right now. Waiting another year or more for this support feels like a long time when you’re trying to stretch every penny. And of course, for those of us outside England – like in Scotland – it raises questions about how equitable the support is across the UK, and whether similar commitments will follow here.
Overall, I’m feeling a mix of hope and determination. Hope because this is a sign that voices are being heard. Determination because we clearly still have a long way to go. I’d be happy to contribute a blog or comment if that would be helpful – especially around how delays like this impact families in real time.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone soon.
