Being on a low income certainly affects relationships with family members. There are simply things I cannot do as a single mother on a low income. My brother is an engineer and my sister a [removed for anonymity] - I can never amount to them as they have secure jobs that are well paid. When it comes to Christmas and birthdays their gifts are quite extravagant and I simply can’t compete. I then start placing unnecessary pressure on myself to keep up with their generous gifts but I simply can’t.
