"All nonsensical to me"

In the following blog, Beverly W a Changing Realities parent who is unable to work due to a chronic pain condition, shares their response to the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.

Jeremy Hunt recently said, "There is too much negativity about the British economy" but I don't understand why they're having a go at poor people whilst letting rich people off.

Looking at the Autumn Statement released yesterday, it's blatantly all nonsensical to me.

I have a hidden disability and chronic pain condition which is progressive with no licensed effective treatment or cure. I am judged on how I look and sound... No one can see the high level of pain I am in. Pain is an attention magnet. It's very draining on my energy levels.

Persistent debilitating pain that nothing can be done about sounds far fetched but it's an everyday living nightmare for me. I had my dream job as a children's worker, I trained long & hard to get the job. I had to leave it.

I rent privately, I believe there are clauses in my tenancy agreement which state I'm not allowed to use the property to work in.

Also employees are paid to work not paid to lounge around unwell unable to focus on a task. Concentrating on a computer screen for x amount of hours per day causes vision disturbance/migraine. Also, I’m prone to joint stiffness and risk of blood clots from immobility.

The narrative about work being good for mental health doesn't add up either... In fact it's the opposite for people like me. It's very stressful to try to work whilst managing a health condition and running a family home.

Am I likely to earn enough to support a decent standard of living in return for very little effort? Am I allowed to claim for damages as my health deteriorates due to additional stress of sustaining a job, I'm not remotely interested in doing or good at? Where are the employers willing to employ someone so unreliable in the workplace at decent rates of pay?

Home working is likely to cause more isolation for disabled people. No distinction between the start or end of the day, week, month.

The amount of "saved money" versus the human suffering and misery it will cause is beyond belief… Their philosophy that we're sat at home "not working" simply isn't accurate or true.

This condition isn't my fault. Anyone of us can fall on hard times in the blink of an eye.
